Application to Join the No-Fee Open Access Publishing in Africa Community of Practice

Based in an African organisation and publishing a no-fee open access (OA) journal or books?

Apply to join a growing Community of Practice dedicated to strengthening Diamond OA publishing in Africa.

Over 350 editors and publishers of no-fee OA journals across the continent have already joined the Community of Practice to share experiences, explore opportunities for collaboration and partnerships, and collectively advocate for equitable and sustainable publishing models, often referred to as Diamond OA, both in Africa and globally.

Moderated by the West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN), the Community of Practice is part of the Collaboration for Sustainable OA Publishing in Africa project. The project is implemented in partnership with Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL) and African Journals Online (AJOL), with support from Wellcome.

This initiative builds directly on key findings from the Landscape Study of No-Fee Open Access Publishing in Africa, which highlighted the challenges faced by African publishers in navigating rapidly evolving global publishing trends. Respondents emphasised the need for training, editorial and IT support, policy guidance, and good practices.

The Community of Practice responds directly to these needs. It maintains a mailing list for regular communication and convenes monthly meetings to discuss key topics and identify areas for joint action. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 10:00 AM UTC.
